Scrap Pile Mystery Quilt 2010 - Erik Homemade

Frequently asked questions about this mystery are:(per the designer)How big is this quiltproject?--We are planning a Throw Size quilt and ourborders have yet to be determined. We will let you know our size later on inthe project, however, you an always add more blocks and/borders to your quiltto make it larger. We chose easy blocks for this reason. Feel free to enlargethe quilt as you like.

How many scraps will Ineed?--Lots and lots. And lots of different sizes! Wechose these blocks because they use lots of different sizes from the scrappile. Use larger scraps for the larger pieces and so on.

Can I make my sashingscrappy, too?--Why not? We used one fabricthroughout the 30 blocks so that it would unify a group of unrelated scraps, but why not be creative with the sashing as well!?

Can I use fabric scrapswith a theme?--This is a fun idea! Use allCivil War fabrics, or pick a holiday. Erik's mother is usingall Fourth-of-July fabrics scraps she had on hand. She likes thequilt so much, she is planning another one with Halloween scraps!

Is the quilt pictoral? Dothe blocks make a picture?--No. These blocks makea random patch pattern. Once you have all of the blocks made, you may want toturn them in several different directions to see what you like best.

What quilting methods areused in making this quilt?--Machine piecing. Nothingelse is planned. Of course if you want to add your own thing, by allmeans, let the quilt inspired you! Can a beginner make thisquilt?--We think so. The instructions and piecing arepretty straight forward. As long as you press in the direction indicated, thequilt should be easy to make. There really is nothing complicated to theseblocks. That said, always use your best quilting techniques!
