How to revive an old scarf
Hi everybodyThis used to be my favorite scarf!! and now its full of pills and the colors look dull. Is there anyway to bring it back from the dead, will washing, removing pills, and re-kniting do the trick or should I just trash it?
If you still have the pattern and can buy the same yarn, you'd better reknit it. I'm not sure if it's possible to make anything the old one to look like new remove pills by hand, soak the scarf in water with hair conditioner (may help to revive the softness and brightness of the yarn), block with pins to dry, if it is made in lacy pattern. But honestly, for a best result I would re-knit it after washing the skeins of yarn. I would like to know as well. I usually trash it when it gets old. I don't think I know how to fix it. If it's raggedy, reknit it. If it's just that it pills, shave it with a knit shaver. LucyLockets advice is very good. Thank you very much for sharing! Very nice. Thanks for sharing. Following this thread sorry, I cant help you i'm not sure there is a...possibility for your scarf if there are too much pills. you can renove it by hands, wash it, you can add beads or little stripes of yarn in different coloursinserted between the different holes in the plot to create a drawing. looking at the photo i see pills expecially in the borders of the scarf. if you like it very much this scarf you can try sewing small strips of wool inserted between the different holes in the plot to create a drawing.... If you still have the pattern and want to make it again, I'd re-knit.
To do this you will have to unpick the scarf and skein the yarn before washing it in hanks - some of the 'bit's and pills may come off.............I would then re-knit with the yarn with another thin yarn - maybe a coloured mohair or art yarn to put some 'zing' back into the colours. You should be able to choose a yarn more easily to go with the original yarn after you have washed and skeined it.
Very nice :loveliness: thanks for the post
