I would use 2 threads

i think the common practice is that if you are stitching over 2 threads then use 2, if stitching over 1 use 1.

it depends partly on your preference i think, take a sample of the fabric and do one 10 x 10 square using 1 over 1 and do another 10 x 10 square using 2 over 1. I did this and felt the 1 over 1 looked less vibrant then the 2 over 1. Also a tip if stitching on aida do the same using 2 over 1 and three over 1. If it isn't economic choice or the piece is going to be treasured for many years i always go for the more vibrant choice. I also hate the fabric showing behind my stitches. Hope this help

no, lugana is evenweave, like linen but all threads are uniform size :)

Lugana 25:

2 over 1 for tent stitch.
1 over 1 for cross stitch.

What do you mean 2 over 2 or 1 over 1?

2 over 2 means   2 threads over two boxes (think of a tic-tac-toe grid and each hole is one of the spots in a tic-tac-toe board. You would make you cross in the 6th to 3rd hole and your returning stitch to make the 'X' in the 9th to 1st hole)
1 over 1 means   1 thread over 1 box (think of the open holes in aida fabric)
