Working with metallics

Does anyone have any tips or hints to a newbie just starting to work with metallics??

Patience is key! I agree with everyone above- shorter lengths and thread conditioner if you find there to be too much snag or fraying.
Also, test different brands to find what you like.
DMC Metallic is HORRIBLE! No one likes it!
Some people hate Kreinik, others love it. Go for #4 braid for Kreinik. Try Petite Treasure Braid if you don't like Kreinik.
Take it slow and be patient and it will turn out beautiful.

When I use metallic threads I cut into 12-inch sections. If it starts to fray moisten just slightly with your fingertips or a thread conditioner. Metallic threads can kink so be patient. If the metallic thread is for just a few stitches complete all the regular thread stitching first then stitch the metallic thread and last the backstitches.

I prefer to work with Kreinik metallic threads. They glide much easy on the needle and are lovely to stitch with.

Some people use a sheet that you place in the tumble dryer to help "tame" them or thread heaven or beeswax. I don't use any.

Use short lengths of thread, this will help stop tangle and fray.

Good luck dear!:loveliness:

Kreinik, very fine thread - i guess it is nr4... thread conditioner anddo not use long lenghts, use a chenille needle - metallic threads are a pain in the a..!!!

Work with short lengths and keep some beeswax or conditioner handy. Take your time with metallics, not the easiest material to work with.

I used metallics in a pattern, it's not easy, for a beginner you must have some patience to work with. But you will manage it, good luck. :)

When I use metallics I use short threads and moisten then slightly to keep them from fraying.
