Rabbit ear crochet help! Sc hdc dc tr dtr...

So the pattern is this:

Foundation Chain 17 stitches
Starting in the 2nd hook, sc in each of next 2 st,

hdc in each of next 2 st, dc in each of next 2 st,
tr in each of next 2 st, dtr in each of next 2 st,
tr in each of next 2 st, dc in each of next 2 st,
hdc in each of next 2 st.

Now work on the other side of the foundation chain,
hdc in each of next 2 st, dc in each of next 2 st,
tr in each of next 2 st, dtr in each of next 2 st,
tr in each of next 2 st, dc in each of next 2 st,
hdc in each of next 2 st, sc in each of next 2 st.

Sl st in next st and fasten off.

NOW, I've followed the pattern and while it kind of DOES look like bunny ear, but something just seems off. Like mine has gaps in between stitches?
But when you look at the pattern picture(blue one) it has no gaps, and really tight.

I'm using 4mm hook and using this grey yarn. It looks perfect on amigurumi body though.
Can someone try making this pattern and see if there's something I did wrong? I have no one around me who crochets so I can't go to someone for help, this website is my only hope.

PLEASE HELP THIS POOR SOUL!!
Thank you in advance!!

(Sorry, the first attachment is the ear and the last attachment is the amigurumi body. I messed up on describing them.)
Could it be that I'm using wrong needle?
The yarn recommended to use 5mm to 5.5mm hook for crochet. I'M ALREADY USING 4.5MM. I tried making one with 4.0mm hook but I still have gaps....

I work every stitch in one loop only, this way you do not have to work the second part of the stitches in between the previous ones.
Search for this video tutorial in a famous web site, it is quite similar to the technique I use
Small Crochet leaf - Yolanda Soto Lopez

You could try using a linked half double crochets and and linked double crochets. They're actually the same stitches as half double and double crochet, but they take a step that makes it more compact. There are videos on youtube on how to make those.

Do you use the same yarn as the author suggested for this pattern? Looking at bunny ear I would say that the author crochets tighter then you ( or uses different yarn). I would use even smaller hook, maybe 3 or 2.5

I have tried every way.. I made this same ear 4 times and still doesnt look like pattern picture.

Try a smaller hook ... that will make the longer stitches like tr and dtr tighter.

I think the stitches are too loose. have you tried with a smaller hook size?

To avoid holes: On 2nd side of chain crochet into the back loop only.
