[Tips Discussion] Not using a hoop

Lately I have started to not use a hoop for larger projects. Does anyone else do this? My one worry is getting the piece very dirty by handling it so directly.  I do wash my hands before stitching, but should I be using gloves?

I never use hoop. I Always wash my hands before, never eat next my work... Gloves are too much, in my opinion.

Washing the hands, no eating and no drinking everytime!! Washing the finished project is essential in my eyes - you can't avoid 'natural dirt' (sweat, hair, dust).
Hoop or not? I just do small projects (10-15cm square) without a hoop, for bigger ones I usea scroll frame which is much easier for my left hand wrist :D

Stitching is much about preference!!

I also never use a hoop, I stitch in hand.  Agree, keep hands very clean and never eat while stitching. Gloves would not work for me, need to feel the thread and fabric.

Never had to wash a project when finished.

Also, have never stitched a really big project.  I tend to like medium to small designs

I typically choose projects so that the full design fits into a 14-inch hoop as I also am concerned about getting my project dirty. For a bigger project doing the stitching free hand I find at the end you need to block it to make the stitching straight and this is more difficult that just moving the hoop around the stitching.

I only use hoop on very big project with soft fabric, for the rest of them, I prefer not to use hoop, I am always worried actually that the stitching will get unsettled in the places where hoop is, so I avoid it as much as I can. I agree with the others, just washing hands should be perfectly enough.

Wiele lat nie używałam tamborka ani ramy (krosna). Od niedawna używam tamborka lub ramy. Pracuje mi się wtedy lepiej i praca wydaje się bardziej estetyczna. Mycie rąk jest jak najbardziej wskazane. Po skończeni projektu konieczne jest wypranie obrazka.

I began to stitch without hoop but I prefer using one now just because I feel more comfortable with it and I also love the sound of the thread when it goes through a tight fabric ! Following personal preferences is certainly the best way to go.

update: I have a Q-Snap now, but I don´t like the stitching - I always do the sewing method, so it is really really weird to me! But I will give it another try, as I want to stitch 2 large projects this year

No because I sweat a lot with my hands and I don't wanna wash it when I finished specially if I use over dye threads so for me its a big no, but if you wanna try...do whats make you happy

I don´t like using a hoop, as said before I also need to feel the fabric and the needle ..but most important thing at all: ALWAYS wash your hands before stitching!

Yo tampoco lo usaba hasta que mis manos empeoraron, ahora ya me he acostumbrado, me queda el punto mas bonito y la labor mas limpia.

I will still use the hoop, will wash hands before splicing, so that will not be dirty.
