On 14 count 2 or 3 strands of floss for cross stitch, usually 1 for backstitch. (Some people stitch blacks, navy blues or whites with 3 even when the other colors 2, because the color of the fabric shows below).
On 16 you decide if it is 2 or 1 strand.
On 18 one strand is enough.
Please try on a scrap fabric, if you are not sure.

I have a friend, the first time she did cross stitching .She used 6 strands for 14CT.I wonder how can she put 6 strands into 26 needle .She told me that firing a little bit at the begining of the thread,it will be easier . :sleepy:

what about the needles?? do you use the same size of needle in all fabrics? The thing is whatever I do I can not help the strands twist around each other, thus showing the color of the fabric. My stitches look skinny rather than being thick and looking full. I would appreciate your help...

The patterns that you follow should give you all the instruction you need to stitch your charts .... i use DMC threads (6 strands in each hank) of which i stitch with 2 strands, and the aida size generally is 14, 16 or 18 count depending on the chart. As for needles (embroidery needle) i useually stick with a favourite one till i either loose it or break it ( then have to find another that feels right, unorthodox really i surpose) and bircemors the twisting and knotting of the yarn is something that happens to all of us i think.
All the very best ladies ...
